Kate Barretto has experience working on a diverse range of litigation matters with a focus on plaintiff personal injury matters, such as motor vehicle accidents, catastrophic injuries, slip and fall accidents, brain injuries, dog bites, bike accidents, CPP and long-term disability denials, and various disputes with insurance companies.

In addition to her personal injury practice, Kate has experience working on a number of plaintiff class action matters from initial retainer through court-approved settlement.

Prior to joining the firm, Kate worked at a number of boutique litigation firms, always specializing in plaintiff personal injury and insurance-related disputes. Kate obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from Brock University before she attended law school at the University of Kent in Canterbury England. Kate was called to the bar in 2018.

Kate has been involved as counsel on

Cozzi v. Cato, 2019 ONSC 5026 (CanLII); Peter B. Cozzi Professional Corporation v. Cato, 2020 ONCA 423 – successfully opposed a motion for a charging order, decision defended on appeal;

Martin v. Hurst, 2022 ONSC 3877 (CanLII) – motion for default damages arising from a dog attack (under appeal)

Gavrila v CUMIS General Insurance Company, 2022 CanLII 4537 (ON LAT) – appealed insurer’s denial of the Applicant’s medical benefits
